existentialism breeds compassion

i mean

think about your individual experience. think about the times you've thought about life, the universe, and everything. tried to find meaning in the mundane. struggled to break out of the confines of your socialized accultured hereditary existence. maybe you have something to offer the future of our planet. maybe a thought you express, or a descendent of yours will be important.

then realize that likely over 60,000 of you were just lost to a wave.

jesus fucking christ. and the day after christmas no less.

donate what you have, man. please.

the source for information as it rolls in and effective places accepting contributions.

Update 1: A message from a friend

I am writing to encourage monetary donations to any of the
organizations that are involved with the relief activities in South
Asia. Please scroll down for links to Donation Sites for the major
agencies (I recommend UNICEF, Save the Children, the Red Cross and
Doctors Without Borders). Donating cash to an established organization
is the BEST way to help. Please spread the word. Let's make it easy for
people to help. Just pass the email on to your friends and family.

This is a sad time. Please donate to help the unfortunate souls of
South Asia who have endured an unimaginable tragedy. The death toll
approaches 100,000. The news is not good. The funds are scarce and the
damage is extensive.

Even if you read nothing more, please READ THIS:
Drinking water, makeshift shelter and basic medical care are ESSENTIAL
for the survivors - and we can help the people get what they need.

1.Safe Drinking Water is in EXTREMELY short supply. Currently 8oz cans
of water are being rationed to people who live in tropical climates.
That is all they get. 8oz.

2. Children have been orphaned by the thousands. The number is only
growing.

3. Basic health care is not available for those that are most affected:
too young or old to care for themselves, those who have sustained
injury or are experiencing the dramatic shock of this event.

4. The threat of epidemic levels of disease will become apparent
shortly, once the shock of the tidal wave has lessened: there are dead
bodies everywhere, with inadequate infrastructure to handle them. Once
they begin to decompose, ground water will be further contaminated and
cholera, dysentery and other, much more serious complications will
ensue.

It is IMPERATIVE that we help all of these people. Cash donations are
the best way to help. Water Purification tablets and rehydration salts.
Plastic sheets. Basic food rations. Bedding. Donations will get these
things for the people that need them.

For those of you who are not familiar with details, the death toll in
South Asia reached 80,000 today and it will definitely grow. The
earthquake and subsequent tsunami of Dec. 26, have wrought havoc
throughout the countries which line the Bay of Bengal (just to the east
of India). This part of the world is home to some of the poorest people
on earth. Clearly Indonesia has been devastated. Other regions have
been decimated as well: the entire island nation of the Maldives was
submerged, and miraculously people are now trying to rebuild a nation
whose Maximum Elevation is 3 feet above sea level; the nation of Sri
Lanka was already at civil war, but the gigantic wave alone has left a
death toll approaching 25,000 ,while hospitals are damaged, and both
housing and food are washed away; the southern portion of India,
Thailand, and even as far away as Somalia on the East African coast
face imminent humanitarian disasters.
